first snow

McCarren Park, Brooklyn, at its finest.
NYC's first snow of the season -- February 22.
Another glorious sign of global warming.

This poor snowman was a bit mangled,
but the dogs certainly enjoyed him (note yellow snow to the left).
maybe it was them...
The new luxury condos--the park will never be the same...
My fabulous new Pujar boots that keep my feet warm and dry.

Lunar Eclipse

Last night there was a lunar eclipse. As I stretched out my window into the frosty air, I viewed a darkened, blood-red moon towering over Brooklyn. A truly eerie event if you did not know what it was. We expect the moon, sun and stars to behave in a constant way, but even they are impermanent. The red color comes from the light of the sun stretching and bending around the earth, refracted by particles in the earth's atmosphere. As one website poetically describes it..."the effect is to cast all the planet's sunrises and sunsets on the moon."
